Community Classes and Descriptions

Wilderness and Remote First Aid . This 16-hour Wilderness and Remote First Aid course, which is designed for scouts, outdoor enthusiasts and people who work in remote wilderness environments, gives people the skills needed to respond to an emergency when help may be delayed. The course includes training on:

  • Head (Brain), Neck and Spinal Injuries
  • Heat-Related Emergencies
  • Hypothermia
  • Altitude-Related Illnesses
  • Allergies and Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Bone and Joint Injuries
  • Wounds and Wound Infection

Available Community Classes Include:

  • First Aid - 4 hour class
    This course teaches fundamental principles, skills and knowledge of first aid and accident prevention. Students are prepared to respond to typical emergencies when medical assistance is delayed.
  • Adult CPR - 31/2 hour class
    Students learn to perform rescue breathing, one-rescuer CPR for an adult victim (at least 12 years old) and emergency aid for choking victims.
  • Standard First Aid - 7 hour class
    This course is a combination of both First Aid and adult CPR and teaches fundamental principles, skills and knowledge of first aid, accident prevention, and adult CPR. Students are prepared to respond to typical emergencies when medical assistance is delayed.
  • Adult Child and Infant CPR - 41/2 hour class
    Designed for adults who have regular responsibility for the care of children under the ageof eight. Infant/child CPR trains individuals in rescue breathing, CPR, and how to respond to choking emergencies. Infant and child-sized mannequins are used. Includes prevention information.
  • Standard First Aid with Adult Child and Infant CPR - 71/2 hour class
    Designed for daycare and foster care providers who need to obtain or renew their licenses. This class includes adult, child and infant CPR with First Aid.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP) - 2 hour class
    The BBP classe provide training for people who may be exposed to blood or other body fluids at home or on the job. This class addresses how blood-borne diseases are transmitted, how to protect against disease transmission, how to minimize the chance of exposure and what to do if an exposure occurs.
  • HIV/AIDS Basics Fundamentals - 2 hour class
    This class provides a basic overview of HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention.
  • HIV/AIDS Fundamentals with Bloodborne Pathogens Skills - 4 and 7 hour classes
    This combination class covers a basic overview of HIV/AIDS awareness, education and prevention, plus,training for people who may be exposed to blood or other body fluids at home or on the job. This class addresses how blood-borne diseases are transmitted, how to protect against disease transmission, how to minimize the chance of exposure and what to do if an exposure occurs. This class meets Washington State Requirements.

  • CPR/AED for the Health Care Provider - NEW - Two-Year certification - 8 hour class
    Created to allow greater flexibility for those who maintain professional-level CPR/AED skills, this course is based on real-life rescue scenarios and lessons that reinforce apropriate decision making. Course work includes how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies, how to use an AED on victims of cardiac arrest and how to use personal protective equipment to stop bloodborne pathogens.
     
  • Pet CPR and First Aid - 4 hour class
    This course is available only in select areas of the United States! The class trains both dog and cat owners how to provide care to an injured or sick pet until a veterinarian is available. 911 Emergency is not available for pets! This class is the next best thing. Did you know that most pet-owners would do CPR?  Read all about it.   • Lifeguarding Courses - 30 hour class
    This course teaches candidates the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries.  For more information, read the Lifeguard Brochure.
