Disaster Services Volunteer Training
There are several ways that you can get the training you need to qualify for the volunteer activities in which you are interested:
- Local Classes
Classes may be offered at the Red Cross office at 3114 E Fourth Plain Blvd or at other locations as specified in the schedule. To attend a Disaster Services course offered by the Southwest Washington Red Cross, volunteers must PRE-REGISTER for classes by emailing your name and the class you are planning on attending to the Emergency Services Volunteer Training Coordinator or by calling the Clark County office at 360-693-5821 ext. 137.
- Food Safety Training
You can take this class online at http://arc.safefoodsolutions.com/. You will need the Activation Code, and your DSHR # in order to take the class. If you don't have the Activation Code or a DSHR #, contact our Emergency Services Volunteer Training Coordinator or by phone at 360-693-5821 ext. 137.
- Red Cross Learning Center (Saba)
You can take Online and combination Web/Classroom classes by using the Saba system. You can see a complete list of web-based and classroom-only classes at https://classes.redcross.org/Saba/Web/Main and you can self-register online for any class. The User Guide will show you how to use the class catalog, set up a user ID, and register for a class. If you need more information or if you'd rather register by phone, please call during office hours, Monday - Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, 360-693-5821 or toll free 888-434-1966.
- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) onine courses
FEMA offers a huge variety of online courses about everything to do with emergencies. They are all free, and you're encouraged to absorb as much knowledge as possible about the emergency response collaboration of many organizations. Some FEMA classes are actually required or very encouraged for positions such as a Partner Services Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Red Cross Liaison. If you are interested in Partner Services, the required FEMA classes are IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800. You can find the classes at http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.asp.
- Portland/Oregon Trail Chapter (OTC) classes
Other classes are offered in Portland through Oregon Trail Chapter that we are welcome to attend. Their training calendar is at http://www.oregonredcross.org/general.asp?SN=2866&OP=2867&IDCapitulo=663B0ID44V#cal. To register for OTC classes, please email Emergency Services Volunteer Training Coordinator or call 503-528-5663 with your name, the class name and date that you'd like to attend, and let them know you are a SW Washington Red Cross volunteer. Some classes require a form 5898H showing that you have met all of the prerequisites.
